Spotting Scope Features

Most present day spotting scopes are made similar to telescopes and binoculars. Just like the binocular, it uses a prism inside to convert the image so it the right side up and the right and left sides are correct. There are important features that are built into many models that buyers need to be aware of:

Waterproofing

This is a good feature that you will find with a number of spotting scopes. It becomes necessary as a result of a number of applications. With the seals in waterproofed models your scope will be able to keep out dirt, dust and moisture therefore increasing the lifespan of your gadget.

Eyepieces

This is a place where a lot of care needs to be taken especially when shopping. Take note that some retailers include the price of eyepieces in the entire price; this is especially true about the medium and low end scopes where eyepieces cannot be removed anyway. If you are going to buy a higher end scope, you will most likely receive a scope with removable eyepieces that can be used for different applications. Always make sure to ask whether you are paying for “body only” or the eyepieces are included.

Camera Adapters

There are a number of spotting scopes that are camera adaptable. However, this will also depend in what type of camera you are using. Specific cameras such as the SLR variety work with specific adapters but in most cases, you should be able to attach your small digital camera to most spotting scopes that come with universal digital adapters. This gives you a fun and effective way of shooting some beautiful pictures; always take note of the diameter of the eyepiece of your spotting scope when you are ordering.

Armoring your Spotting Scope

This is an important feature for people who believe their spotting scope will be used in some hard and difficult situations especially in the field. This feature is not absolutely necessary for those who use who only have casual applications for their scopes. If you are worried that the scope will be exposed to scratches, you most likely need to acquire a zippered nylon case where you can keep it during times when it is not in use.

Weight

Some people end up leaving their scoped behind as a result of their weight; perhaps they should have been advised earlier on this particular issue. You don’t have to carry too much weight in the name of a scope; make use of a spotting tripod that can be placed at a permanent location or on a vehicle.

Here, you need to know that a spotting scope with a higher magnification does not necessarily mean a better spotting scope. You will also understand this better if you go through the spotting scope reviews on various optics websites.
